Gentlemen, a great first round.  Lots of solid picks.  Miguel Cabrera goes at #5 to Michael Huston after years of #1 or #2.  Chris Fisher takes his Home Boy Troy and looks for 450+ AB’s.  Bob Sikon takes the first Chicago Cub selected in the first round in the annals of history.  Two special shout-outs:  Kevin Justmann for the only pitcher in the first round and Johnny Peppers for going all-in on Donaldson.  Good job, guys.

16) Ron Stockton
Corey Kluber
SP, CLE
17) Mike Pichan
Stephen Strasburg
SP, WAS

What’s that I see?  Bob Sikon selecting a pitcher in the 2nd round?  It cannot be.  Bob hates pitchers with a massive passion.  Johnny Peppers & Scott Gilroy go after speed.  The experts say Altuve can repeat and Hamilton can’t get on base.  So it looks like Hamilton will have the better year.  The Big O mortgages his draft on Mr. Braun.  May the force be with him.

This year’s second round was very different than last year.  In 2014 there were 3 pitchers taken in the second round.  This year – twice as many.  I love Chris Sale.  There I said it.  Good pick, Rob.  Marc Taylor says it would be great to see Brantley repeat.  Definitely one of last year’s surprises.  Joel Henard takes a solid SS as he fills his 2nd MI position.  Ron Stockton breaks with 4 years of early-round-pitcher-phobia and selects young Mr. Kluber.  Mr. Stashin takes rock solid Freddie Freeman.  Good numbers, good health.  Good combination.

Round 3
  1) Mike Pichan
Jose Reyes
SS, TOR
  2) Ron Stockton
Max Scherzer

13) Scott Gilroy
Prince Fielder

14) Johnny Peppers
Ian Kinsler
2B, DET
15) Rich Justmann
Adam Wainwright
SP, STL
16) Eric Stashin
Todd Frazier
1B/3B, CIN
17) Steve Slukich
Albert Pujols
1B, LAA

Mr. Ivar Anderson steps to the forefront.  Has he not decreed that HanRam will be motivated this year?  So let it be.  For HanRam is a massive talent who occasionally displays great interest in the game of baseball.  Chris Fisher looks to take all 25 Rockies for his roster.  Scott Gilroy says neck schmeck, Prince is mine.  Mike Pichan looks for Jose Reyes to stay healthy this year.  Johnny Peppers makes a conventional pick.

Lloyd Souza continues his quiet domination landing Adrian I Can Hit Anywhere Except Seattle Beltre with the 37th pick and The Big O says it’s Marte Parte time.  Eric Stashin says Todd Frazier is for real and the 3B position is shallow.  Speaking of Carlos Gonzalez, I hereby decree him to be the ultimate tease.  With that, let us proceed to round the fourth.

Round 4

16) Ron Stockton
Brian Dozier
2B, MIN
17) Mike Pichan
Aroldis Chapman
RP, CIN

Marc Taylor says I want Yu for the Taylor Titans.  Kevin Justmann one ups Yu with Yoenis.  Eric Stashin says give me infield or give me a dearth of success.  Kyle Seager gets his dream of being on Scott Gilroy’s team fulfilled.  Steve Slukich continues to build his young hitters machine.  Beware Mr. Slukich BTW.  He is quiet and deadly.  He has never been convicted and the salary bump for the judge is long forgotten.

I feel like I’m in Bizzarro Jerry world.  Bob Sikon takes his second pitcher in four choices.  Don’t worry all.  Inside it’s eating him up.  Rob Evans takes more power.  He is also suffering inside as he chose another non-White Sox player.  The Big O says the negativity on Dee Gordon is greatly exaggerated and Ivar goes Panda shopping.  Ivar, make sure to have plenty of junk food around the house for him.  Mr. Souza likes players who misspell their first name and Ron Stockton bullDoziers his way through the draft.

Michael Huston takes his 2nd starting pitcher just so he can keep up with Mr. Sikon.  Chris Fisher takes yet another non-Rockies player.  The pain, the pain.  Joel Henard says he’ll take Robert Jay the Bruce.  Mr. Michael Pichan takes the first closer off the board.  Let’s see if we have a run on them in the 5th round.  And, finally, kudos to Johnny Peppers for reverting to form.  No conventionalism for him.  Good round, gentlemen.

Interesting round.  Two closers taken but no closer run after the Chapman pick in round 5.  Two solid catchers.  Three “give me power at all costs” picks with Carter, Davis, and Trumbo.  I like Jordan Zimmermann a lot.  Solid value.  If Pedroia is healthy, he should outplay his selection.  And David Ortiz…..  Rob says he has another year in the tank.  Probably right.

16) Ron Stockton
Alexei Ramirez
SS, CHW
17) Mike Pichan
Gerrit Cole

We’re starting to get a little divergence in the picks as one would expect at this point.  Bob, Michael & Chris looking for bounce back players.  Kevin, Joel, Mike, Olin & Steve looking for upside guys.  The remainder focusing on solid guys who should perform well.  The ratings are dropping in importance as players go with their guys.

Will be interesting to see which Jason Heyward shows us this year.  David Wright is not quite the CarGo level tease but he’s close.  I like Mesoraco a lot.  Matt Holliday has another year in his tank.  Neil & Alexei say their break outs last year were real and we should expect the same.  And Jorge Soler….  Boom or bust IMO.  Olin will either really like him or send him personalized nasty grams.

Is it true?  Yes, it is, Virginia.  Both rounds 6 & 7 started with 2 STL players.  Cosmic colorized coincidence or coordinated comedic conspiracy?  Lloyd says ‘it’s always Sonny in Oakland’ and Olin says “now wait a minute pardner, I’m the real Oakland fan but I’ll take Street level pitching”.  Ron has a need for a closer and Mike wishes there were more phat players.  Where are all the steroids when you need them?

Michael is committed – that is, to infielders.  Ivar likes the homeboy (and so do I but Ivar very rudely selected him first).  Chris says Ryu on you and Mr. Taylor is just Joshing.  Kevin is too young to have heard of Peter & Gordon.  Joel Jimmies a Shield and Rob selects a player whose name I can’t work with.  OK, I can do the Yan but what does one do with Gomes?  Not to stay on Rob, but Rob:  You know Gomes is not on the White Sox, right?  What’s that about?

He of the Sikons says Gio, I’ll take Gonzalez.  Scott takes errr… a starting pitcher from Seattle and Johnny says no Moss grows HR’s like Brandon.  The Rich likes players with two first names and Eric Betts on Mookie.  Steve caps the round with Yas too Many.  If one were to guess, one would have to surmise this is my worst recap in recorded history.

Great draft so far.  My real job has gotten in the way a bit so no recaps lately.  Picks I like over the last few rounds:  Tyler Clippard – looks like Doolittle is toast.  Kennys Vargas – underrated power.  Dexter Fowler – underrated player.  Phil Hughes – like Bill Murray, Geena Davis, and Cousin Eddie, all he needed to do was get out of New York.

Oswaldo Arcia – see Vargas, Kennys.  Steven Souza – changed his name to match Lloyd’s.  Carlos Beltran – he’s annoying but should get 450 AB.  Collin McHugh – last year was not a fluke.  A.J. Pollock – breakout year in 2014 until injury.  Drew Hutchison – See McHugh, Collin although Hutchison is better long term.

Matt Wieters – no reason he shouldn’t be fully healed.  Austin Jackson – good value this late.  Jayson Werth – boom or bust candidate but if healthy and out of jail and focused, will be a great contributor.  Steve Pearce – late bloomer or fluke, I’d go late bloomer.  Mike Napoli & Adam LaRoche – they’re actually the same person in real life.  All you need is power, power.  All you need is power.

Lorenzo Cain – great value this late.  Sometimes BABIP is high because players hit line drives….  Melky Cabrera – he gets no credit for his stellar year before the injury.  Santiago Casilla – will get some saves and produces great peripherals.  Justin Verlander – not what he was but a solid value in the 12th round.  Michael Pineda – if he can stay healthy, he will provide stellar numbers and W’s.

Managers are still finding value at this late stage.  Chris Fisher crisply welcomes Coco to his team.  Ivar selects – oh, never mind – that one’s too easy.  The Rich tills the soil for Chris.  Johnny does a head fake to the Rich and says he’s Justin a Smoakin’ mood.  Scott knows that Michael has Bourn up well before last year.

Joel shows he’s a student of history and no darn volcano is going to stop him from Pompey.  Ron is learning Morse code and Rob is leaning how to spell Teix – sorry couldn’t do any further.  Too confusing.  Eric is into Holland geography one Miley at a time.  Steve doesn’t owe anything so he’s heading to out for Buffal Owings.

Marc selects a man with a girl’s last name.  Sorry, couldn’t do any better with that one.  Mike says Marlon fishing is for the Byrds.  And Olin takes a bonafide Bonafacio.  For those of you not mentioned, never fear.  Your turn shall come.

  3. One definitely adjusts their choices depending on their position in the draft. Picking near the end makes one reach on occasion. Billy Hamilton at 2.4 may have been one but I doubt he would have lasted until my next pick at 3.14. Same with Santana at 4.4. Just a long wait watching 26 picks made before my next one at 5.14.

It makes my pick strategy as follows: Conventional, Reach, Conventional, Reach etc. lol.

    1. That's funny. Just noticed the last 2 rounds started with STL players. Cosmic coincidence or dastardly plan?
